Is Kash Global® KN95 Face Mask Washable?

Two things are NOT really recommended to be tried on a KN95 mask: aerosol or liquid alcohol spraying or wetting and Washing it in soapy water.

Generally, it's not recommended to boil, steam or wash the mask as this will disintegrate its filtration material. According to a study by Dr Tsai of UT Knoxville cleaning the mask with alcohol or soapy water leads to a significant reduction in the mask’s filtration efficiency.

However, according to Dr. Tsai: “submerging an N95 in 125C/260F degree steam or boiling water for 3 minutes will disinfect the mask without significantly reducing its filtration efficiency”. Nonetheless, as with many things in life, you need to be cautious.  The mask shouldn’t be excessively stirred if you decide to boil it and it must be kept submerged. However, Kash Global doesn’t guarantee this is the right practise to clean the mask as we haven’t actually tried this method on our masks.

Nevertheless, there are some other suggested methods to clean the mask such as using dry heat, UV light and moist heat.  If you decide to go for any of these methods you need to check how to perform it the right way.
